New approach for Chinese students outside China in submitting applications for student visas

From March 1, 2002, students who are citizens of China but residing outside the territory of the People's Republic of China can submit or mail their student visa application directly to the Department of Immigration, Adelaide:

Offshore Processing Centre
Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs
GPO Box 1393
Adelaide SA 5001
Australia

Applicants who mailed their student visa applications are required to pay application fees. Please note: South Australia's visa centers do not accept personal checks or cash inserted in the application materials. Applicants must pay to the banks and the bank will issue a check to the Australian Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs Department.

Applicants can fill out credit card information on the visa application form (157A) and also attached letter. Such information includes credit card numbers, expiry dates, names of cardholders and payment. Remember to also attach a copy of the front and back of the credit cards. Australian Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs Department accept American Express, Mastercard, JCB, and Diners credit cards.

Foreigners in China who submit applications for student visas to Australia are not affected by this new approach.

The new approach is designed to better address the growing number of Chinese students’ visa application and to shorten the visa processing time.
