TOEFL test is a necessity of study-abroad in around 6000 institutions and 110 or more countries including America and Canada. TOEFL is held by ETS in the scale of the whole world, aiming at people whose native language is not English. In America and Canada, about 2400 universities and colleges accept TOEFL and regulate the basic score line of applicants.
 
 
 
There are three kinds of TOEFL test: Paper-Based Testing (PBT), Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and The Internet-based TOEFL Test (IBT).
1.Paper-Based Testing：
 

PBT is divided into four parts: Listening, Grammar, Reading and Writing. Total score is between 310 and 677. Writing score is between 1.0 and 6.0. Way of score sending: phone.
2.Computer-Based Testing：
 

CBT is divided into four parts: Listening, Grammar, Reading and Writing. Full score is 300. Since Sep. 30 th 2006, CBT had been cancelled and parts of test sites are now taking IBT. Other test sites continually implement PBT.
3.The Internet-based TOEFL Test：
 

Since Sep.15 th 2006, including areas of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macaw, some mainland cities in China had implemented IBT. These cities are: Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou ，Hangzhou, Shanghai and Tianjin. IBT is divided into four parts: Listening, Reading, Oral English and Writing and the test time is 4 hours. Each part has 30 points and the full score reaches 120. Listening usually has 34 to 51 subjects and its test time range from 60 minutes to 90 minutes; Reading usually has 36 to 70 subjects and its test time range from 60 minutes to 90 minutes; Six subjects in Oral English part while its test time reaches 20minutes; Writing usually divided into 2 parts and its test time is 50 minutes.

4.Differences among IBT, PBT and CBT：
  1.Setup new part of oral English including separate and integrate oral test.

2.Grammar part has been cancelled.

3.Dialogues in Listening part will be longer and pronunciation will be more nature. Students are required to take notes while listening. Some new type of subjects will be added and students need to judge attitude and motivation of the talker.

4.Cloze test has been added to Reading part.

5.Writing should be typed into computer.Different from CBT, students cannot get score range after IBT. Way of score sending: through Internet. Students are required to apply an account and password so as to check scores freely 15 days after the test
