The full name of Finland is Republic of Finland. It is located in northern Europe with an area of about 338,000 square kilometers. The national population is 5.1 million, and most are living in the southern and central regions. It has 1,100 km long coastline and has many hilly plains. There are more than 60,000 lakes and 9% of the occupied territories are inland water area.
Because of the Baltic Sea, inland waters and the warm currents in the North Atlantic, Finland’s average temperature is 6 ℃ . The coldest month has an average temperature of -7 ° C to -15 ℃ . Finland has continental climate with cold winters and warm summers, therefore the southern Finnish average temperature in summer is the Scandinavian’s highest temperature in the region. |
Geography
Finland has an area of 338,000 square kilometers, crossing 60 degrees north latitude to 70 degrees north of Norway, east of Russia, and northwest of Sweden. Finland is 1,100 km long from north-south and has 540 km width from east-west. The narrowest point is 200 km. 70% of the land is forest, 6% is arable land, and there are more than 188,000 lakes . Most of the northern parts of the Arctic Circle have endless winter nights, and summer midnight sun is one of its wonders. Because of its rich forest and numerous lakes, Finland gives importance to environmental protection. Finland has beautiful scenery and it is a good living environment. |
History

Finland , which has a population of about 5 million people, has its ancestors from the Volga River Basin ( Volga River). The main (official) languages are Finnish and Swedish, but most intellectuals have fluency in English. About 86% believe in Lutheran religion, and the rest believe the Oriental Orthodox, Catholic or Jewish .

Finland in the mid-12th century was invaded by Swedish forces and the Swedish Christian was introduced. Russian forces later invaded Finland is 1808. By 1809 the whole of Finland was conquered by Alexander I of Russia, who set up Finland as a grand duchy. Finland retained the language and culture. In 1812, Helsinki University was established and Finnish has national development in its unique culture and business. Finland, in 1906, gave women the right to vote and the Congress is unicameral.

When Russia became engulfed by the March Revolution of 1917, Finland seized the opportunity to declare independence on Dec. 6, 1917. The constitution was promulgated in 1919 and democracy was implemented. The USSR attacked Finland on Nov. 30, 1939, after Finland refused to give in to Soviet territorial demands. 1939 to 1945 is commonly known as the winter war. During World War II, there is Finland and Germany-Nazi alliance . The Paris Peace Treaty is in 1947. Finns joined Nazis but they were defeated again and forced to cede the Petsamo area to the USSR. In 1948, a treaty of friendship and mutual assistance was signed by the two nations. Finland continued to pursue a foreign policy of nonalignment throughout the cold-war era. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, the treaty was finally abolished.
