The French government allots 80% of the annual budget to education for improvement of teaching facilities and enhancement of teaching staff. Thus, tuition fees are relatively low compared with other European countries and the United States. However, tuition fees vary in nature among different schools as follows:
1. Universities
Tuition fee ranges from 775-4,500 French francs
2. College
Public and private schools’ tuition fee is about 3,400 French francs per year
3. Other institutions of higher learning
Tuition fee ranges from 2,000-40,000 French franc
2. Accommodation Expenses
Renting an apartment would cost you about 48,000 French francs/ year (average is 40,000 French francs)
Note: City universities have limited number of quarters or dormitories. Usually, private students rent our apartments because it is difficult to avail of the university dormitories. .
3. Meal Expenses
Eating in university restaurants would normally cost you about 20, 000 French francs annually. (Average cost is 2,400 French francs)
Dining out costs you about 48,000 French francs per year (average cost: 4,000 French francs).
4. Medical Insurance
Students must apply for medical insurance. The insurance is used for partial reimbursement of medical expenses. Reimbursements, however, apply only if the total medical expenses is 5,000 French francs and above.
