Some Misunderstanding about Studying in France

With Britain and Australia as its closest rival, although France offers low cost for language learning, this does not mean, that it is totally free. Learning languages is certainly spending money. Fees in private or technology schools would range from 10,000 to 100,000 francs per year. However, tuition fees in universities can be waived. You can apply to France’s University Free-Tuition. This however, requires a high level of French and professional background.

Chinese students may take major different from the major they took in China.
Many think that it is not allowed to change major or if it were allowed, it would take much time. However, most universities in France allow students to change their major. For instance, a Chinese student who finished Finance as his major during his undergraduate in China may take Master of Law in France. For those who wish to change major in the professional education, they may do so but it must be related to the new major they wish to change with.

Many students thick that some schools can be paid just to have some special considerations. This never happens in France. Private or Public schools in France admit students who are qualified. Choosing a school to attend to has simple principles such as: high demand by students, has good reputation to the community, and has lower tuition fee.

You do not have to learn French if you apply to France’s schools where English is the Medium of Instruction.
To study in France means that you must learn French! English is never used in French Schools! These are but clichés. You can learn in France even you know a little of French. There are a lot of universities in France that use English. French people, although they are very proud about their own language, could also communicate with you in English.

Diploma in France is recognized nationwide.
Both Public and private institutions in France issue diplomas. However, the National Diploma Association does not recognize all diplomas. Generally, diplomas awarded by public schools are accepted by the National Diploma Association and therefore recognized by any school in France. On the other hand, some diplomas awarded by the private institutions are not guaranteed to be recognized by other schools. Therefore, students must take this into consideration upon choosing a university to attend.

Certainly, the best city in France is Paris. But is it the best place to study?
Paris is known to be the best city of France. However, studying in the city is not a practical decision. The cost of living is expensive and the population is too large. If you study outside the city, you could save about 20,000 francs a year, except for the arts major. It is only nice to study in Paris for language learning.
