Language Requirements in Studying in Germany |
In Germany, except for a handful of “international degree courses” (Internationale Studiengaenge) and classes in English or other foreign languages, German is usually the medium of instruction in German universities. Therefore, prior to going to Germany, learning German is very important.
In addition, you will feel more comfortable living and studying in Germany if you are proficient in speaking German.
Generally, if you want to study in Germany, you must first take the “German university entrance examination" (Deutsche Sprachpruefung fuer den Hochschulzugang called DSH).
Most of the German universities provide language courses for applicants in order for them to pass the DSH examination. However, language classes often have quota. Many universities have the legislation that the language course (at least 400 hours of studying German) is a prerequisite in entering the university.
