Ireland has an excellent education system. The system or tradition of education was first established by the missionaries of other European countries. This tradition has been maintained until today amid the effort of developing educational curriculum that would consider international perspective and recognition. This gave way to the rising number of students coming from other countries in the world.
In Ireland, the school year starts from September to June of the following year. The school system includes eight years for primary education and six years for secondary education. Every month of June, the students have to take the annual National Unity Examinations. This examination is the final State Graduation Certificate Examination. Most students have to take six, seven or eight courses. Your highest score for the six courses would determine whether the examinee will retake the course or go on to take higher education. Taking English and mathematics course is compulsory. Non-EU students must submit their applications on or before December 15 to the CAO. Each student can complete 20 volunteer assignments, 10 undergraduate programs and 10 certificate or diploma courses, The application fee is 36 pounds for students who submit their applications on or before December 15. But for students who submit their applications after deadline (December 15 ) will pay 54 pounds for their application fee. Students who were not able to do volunteer assignment but wish to apply, may be admitted in July 1 and may pay separate fee aside from the application fee.
CAO of all the institutions will announce those who are qualified to be promoted to the next year level and advise the students about their course end marks (grades). Admission are then issued to students who are qualified to be promoted. The students shall be given two letters of notification. These letters advise the students whether they are academically prepared to go for a university course, take diploma courses or would take another undergraduate studies. The students have to follow the suggested action to be taken. The university courses shall start at the end of September or first week of October.
Some overseas students who choose to enroll in private schools have to finish two years of diploma first. Then may immediately enter the second year of the undergraduate course instead the first year level and the application shall be submitted not through the CAO but directly to the International Students Office Applications.
Universities and colleges in Ireland start each academic year from September to June of the following year. There are nine recognized universities in Ireland. The oldest of which is the Trinity College. This institution which is also known as Dublin University was built in the late 16 th century. There are also 10 technical colleges, two technical institutes and teachers training colleges. All schools shall be funded by the Ministry of Education. The schools offer numerous undergraduate and graduate courses such as : arts and humanities, medical, engineering, science and technology and business studies. In addition, there are also many private institutions recognized by the government. Foreign students who wish to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies must submit applications through the CAO applications not through the school's international student office applications.
