Requirements and Procedures in Applying to Irish Schools

  • A valid passport
Passports must be valid for at least six months after finishing the study/course. If the student wish to renew the passport, she must also provide the old passport for immigration verification purposes. In addition to six-month validity, the passport must have also blank/vacant pages.

  • Admission Letter
Irish s chools are required to provide invitations which clearly states that the student has been actually admitted to the school’s specified program of study. Personalized and informal letters of invitations are considered INVALID and are therefore not recognized. For students who shall enroll in law schools in Ireland must present a letter of endorsement from the Department of Justice while for those who shall enroll in English language courses must present recommendations from English language learning institutions recognized my the Ministry of Education of Ireland.

  • Costs
The student must present receipt of full payment of tuition fees. The applicant must have also paid the visa application fee of about 5,000 pounds. The payment vouchers and other receipts of payment will be attached to the letter of invitation letter of the school.

  • Personal medical insurance
Each student must have full personal medical insurance. Along with the invitation is the certification from the school that the student has medical insurance and that the content of such insurance must be described in details. On the other hand, the student may also present certification of medical insurance paid other than the student’s medical insurance paid by the school. This medical insurance may be personally paid by the student or his family in his country of origin.

  • Declaration of Kinship ( family members or relatives)
Applicants will be required to declare if he/she has any relative living in Ireland or in other European countries. These may include cousins, nephews, or grandparents)

  • Personal Background o f the applicant
The applicant's background should be written stating if the applicant is free of crime or any derogatory records. This is for the public safety or health considerations. If the applicant is found to be not cleared of public misdemeanors, he/she may be denied of the applications even if his/her other documents are valid and correct.

In accordance to public travel policies, if the applicant has been denied visas in the United Kingdom or that the applicant has adverse immigration records, the issuance of visa to Ireland may also be affected by these factors.

  • The applicant's own economic capacity

Applicants will be required to present certification showing his/her economic capacity. This is because the Irish government is not expected to help you even in emergency situation.
Please note : Certifications especially bank accounts must have an English translation and also the exchange rate of the foreign currency.

  • Applicants curriculum vitae
Applicants must prepare a curriculum vitae that would show intended program of study. The curriculum vitae must also contain family background, academic background, and other significant and relevant information. Examinations or interviews by the school to which the applicant wish to enroll in can be used as other materials of identifying the applicant.

  • Immigration of the Country of Origin
the applicant must provide the following information to the immigration of his/her own country: Certificate of employment if the applicant is currently working. The certificate must clearly state the employment status of the applicant and if there are agreements made such as the current employer will pay the tuition fees. The employment must also show how much is the applicant’s salary per year. This is to trace the history of financial accounts as well as the financial capability of the student. The certificate must also indicate the length of service rendered by the applicant. And also the reasons of studying abroad.

  • The consistency of application

Application materials together with other supporting documents must show consistency especially in dates and deadlines. Example, your passport must be at least six months valid after the expected end of the course.

  • Changing the status of Visa
To save time and money, the student must know very well how long he/she would complete his/her program of study. This is needed to apply of the correct type of visa. If the program of study would take 90 days (three months) the student must apply for a “D” student visa. If the study takes less than 90 days, the student may apply for the “C” student visa. Students who wish to extend their “C” visa may do so by re-applying to the visa officer. But this is applied only to exceptional cases. Moreover, if the applicant fails to provide necessary documents, the re-application will not be considered.

Changing or Adding of Course
The applicant must have clearly stated his/her program of study right on the initial application process. However, in cases where the student has changed or added his program of study, he/she must appeal to the Ministry of Justice stating his/her case. The Ministry of Justice may allow the student to change or add courses other to what he/she has stated during the application, provided that the applicant will be able to present necessary documents especially financial matters of more than 5000 pounds otherwise denied.

Where to apply for the extension of visa in case denied?
After being denied a visa, the applicant may apply again to the following address::
Visa Appeals Officer,
Immigration Division,
Department of Justice, Equality & Law Reform,
72-76 St. Stephen 's Green
(This is the address of the Judiciary Immigration Service)

Only written application is admitted. The application must contain reference number and nationality. This accelerates the pace of trial for reconsidering your case. Take note: you must re-apply only when you have satisfactorily completed all the necessary requirements for the re-application/extension of visa.

Visa

Visa is a document that would legally permit your entry to a foreign country. Without the visa, the immigration will never allow your entry. Misrepresentation and questionable identity and reliability may also be grounds for denying your entry to any foreign country.
Therefore, the best school personnel must see to it that their foreign students have met all the requirements especially the visa. It is advisable that schools in Ireland must furnish copies supporting documents of foreign students to the immigration.

  • Re-entry visa
In cases where the student went out of Ireland within the duration of his/her studies, and wish to enter Ireland again to continue the study, the student may apply for re-entry visa.

The conditions of staying in Ireland

The visa application process would include signing a document which states the following:

    1. The student will not engage in any employment in Ireland.

    2. The student guarantees that he/she will not violate the policies and conditions as stated during the application process

Students must understand that if they violated the visa application policies, shall be deported immediately after due process.
