Alien registration certificate
It is the foreigner’s obligation to apply for Japan resident alien, according to the "Alien Registration Law" Initial registration is within 90 days. If you were living in the district, register to the District government. There is also a registration procedure for city government. After registration, you will receive the certificate. You must have the passport and other alternative documents ( for details refer to FAQ).
Health insurance Card
H ealth insurance card registration is needed in case of injuries that need hospital treatment. Students need to pay a minimum cost only. You should know how to do the registration procedures (as detailed reference FAQ).
P ost office and banks
To use the To use the post office or bank to open bank accounts, is also required to produce a passport or alien registration card. Most of the Japanese general use stamps and the foreigners can sign only.
Telephone
An ordinary family in Japan has registered telephone. You must purchase NTT phone to the telephone company but it is quite expensiveAlthough living in the university provides you with a telephone, you have to shoulder the monthly payment. But since the advent of cellular phone, more and more students have their own mobile phone which is far more convenient to use. Mobile phone companies however have different charges for its different services. The company also recently launched the "student discount" service; but you can check other mobile sale shop and choose the best deal for you.
Water and electricity
Utilities generally are not included in the rent. They have their own separate contract. If you live in an apartment, ask the landlord how to handle such utility expenses. Some Japanese homes do not have furniture so you must have your own beddings, kitchen utensils and supplies. Refrigerators, microwave ovens and television can be purchase in the department store with a cheaper price. You can also look the bulletin board in the university where they post sales on these facilities.
Washing machines and dryers
Japan 's apartment unlike Europe and the United States do not use washing machines and dryers. Therefore, you need to go to the laundrymat and do the washing yourself. You’ll need coins to make the washing machine run.
