Current Location> HOME> Guidelines for students who want to study in South Korea: advantages of education in Korea, language, food, accommodation, etc.

Korea Student Visa Information

South Korea is a close neighbor of China. Many areas in China are relatively close with that of Korea as a product of 3,000 years of history of exchanges between China and South Korea's culture and arts and human custom. Since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea from 1992, South Korea cultural and business exchanges have become increasingly frequent. We have a better understanding of Korea, South Korean music, television programs and the inflow of Chinese young people in Korea to learn Korean culture became a craze.

What is the advantage of studying in South Korea ?

Firstly, they use a unified language, Korean language, which is the decisive factor in forming a strong national denominator. In addition to the standard language in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, there is several different dialects. But outside Jeju, dialects are similar therefore there is no obstacle to communication. Korean alphabet was created by a group of scholars in the fourth-generation Korean Dynasty in the 15th century through the king's, Shih-Chung Wang, vigorous advocacy. It has 10 vowels and 14 consonants and can be composed of a wide range of syllables. Han is one of the world's most scientific languages. It has reduced illiteracy in South Korea and made a significant contribution to the development of publishing and printing.

Meanwhile, South Korean students have an advantage because a Master of Science education is tuition-free. Because South Korea does not regard education as an industry, annual undergraduate tuition fees are not high. Students usually spend only for accommodation and living expenses. Most of the university student hostels often accept those who are studying for a master's degree. PhD students will be given the option of renting the university's dormitories but the students learning the language can not rent. The cost of dormitories and hostels are about 70,000 to 150,000 won a month.

What are the things that students need to pay attention to?

First, student should pay attention to two languages. Some schools in Korea teach in English. In fact, English is very popular in South Korea. If you have inadequate communication skills, it is very difficult to live in South Korea . For instance, you may not understand Korean noodle restaurant and then you will just be surprised that they will charge you high. So if you intend to go to Korea to study, it is best to first study Korean language at home . Chinese students are required to take South Korea government certification examinations KPT (Korean Proficiency Test). In the month of October, students who want to study in Korea can participate in the KPT examination held at Shanghai Foreign Studies University and Beijing University. The level of examination depends on the level of education you want to enroll. If you passed the 3 level of examinations, you can apply for undergraduate studies in Korea otherwise before entering the universities you first need to study in Korean language tutorial center. Universities in Korea determine the qualifications of students for their college level, undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs. In addition, some South Korean universities with a fully professional English teaching in graduate and doctoral programs recruit outstanding foreign students directly as long as they have high TOEFL or IELTS results.

Second, students who are at the same time working should not overdo it or should not overwork. Some students who study overseas spent a lot of time on work. Therefore when they are in the school they are already exhausted which will lessen the quality of learning . South Korea is very similar with other universities abroad wherein during the planning of study, there should be reasonable working hours. Generally speaking, the expenditure in South Korea is not high.

In terms of eating or foods, Korean people like to eat sauerkraut, too spicy taste, more barbecues and less water. In a restaurant, they usually have pickles, kelp, silk curd, bean sprouts and cold vegetables, or barbecue pork with cabbage. South Korea does not like coriander. Chinese can bring other flavoring to cook their food.

In addition, Korea is a nation of etiquette and they give importance to courtesy . Foreign students who are studying in South Korea should respect the protocol and the so-called “do as the Romans do."
