Malaysia : Favorable environment for learning English
English in Malaysia is widely used as a result of British colonial rule. Everyday, there is a widespread use of English in all areas such as commercial activities, formal or informal social activities, business transactions, advertising, entertainment, and even spoken among family members, friends or strangers.
Because English language is used widely and learning it is very important, it is mandatory that students use it as second language. In all schools in Malaysia, regardless of class, there is an extensive learning of English. The Ministry of Education required that curriculum should emphasize the teaching of English and the relevance of its contents. This idea is to guide Malaysia citizens from their childhood to their development to be trained and to master the use of English.
English is compulsory even in ordinary schools. Large and small towns throughout Malaysia have many language training centers. These centers also offer a variety of English courses to suit people’s personal or professional education needs. In such courses, the purpose is to help students in their academic courses related to English. Some of the classes meet special needs to help people strengthen and enhance their skills of English.
Local students and also foreign students and foreign nationals residing in Malaysia participate in various English training courses. This huge social need prompted the Malaysian government to be determined to be a regional "center of excellence in education." The government of Malaysia exerts its effort to achieve its ambition to be as competent as the industrialized developed countries in 2020.
International Examination Bodies
Malaysia 's private colleges and universities accept all international standards of English examination to qualify students in their academic courses. Such examinations include TOEFL, IELTS and GCE1119. These examinations were adopted by schools as part of their qualification requirements for admissions.
