Singapore Overview
Singapore is a beautiful island, comprising of 58 small islands, with an area of about 648 square kilometers and a population of over 4.35 million. It is a prosperous, beautiful, and clean city. People describe it as a "garden city." Singapore is located at the southern tip of Malaysia Peninsula, and Malaysia is just on the other side of the peninsula, adjacent to the Philippines and Indonesia. The location is at the crossroads of Southeast Asia. The Republic of Singapore is one of the smallest countries in the world.
In the 14th century, Singapore is ruled by a powerful Buddhist Sri Empire known as "Temasek" or Haicheng. Reportedly, a Sri Buddha Prince Empire saw a beast on the island which he mistakenly believed to be a lion. So "Temasek" was renamed " Singapore", which means " Lion City." In 1819, the British Jazz Raffles went to Singapore and he discovered that this is a good natural environment ideal for trade ports. Therefore, he established the British East India Company and henceforth Singapore entered a new era. In the s ubsequent decades, a large number of immigrants from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and India, migrated to the prosperous Singapore. In 1965, Singapore became an independent country. After 30 years of constant struggle, Singapore has developed into Asia's newly industrialized country in the world.
Singapore is located in the equatorial edge, with little temperature difference between day and night. The average day temperature is 30.7 degrees Celsius. The average night temperature is 23.7 degrees. In Singapore, almost all shops, hotels, office buildings and restaurants have air-conditioning equipment. Singapore has perennial rain and the annual rain is November to January. Because of the northeast monsoon, there is more rainfall than usual. After the quick showers poured down, people enjoy the refreshingly clean air.
Singapore has four million populations, about 77% are Chinese people, about 14% Malay, 8% Indian and Pakistani communities, 1% other races. Over the years, they have formed a racial harmony and social stability. Singapore believes in religious freedom and the main religions are Buddhism, Islam and Christianity Singapore 's four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay and Tami. The official is English language.
