Singapore Overview
Singapore is a beautiful island, composed of 58 islands, with an area of about 692.7 sq km (267.45 sq mi), and has a population of over 4.35 million. Singapore is a prosperous, beautiful, and a clean city and famed to be known as the "garden city." Located at one of the crossroads of Southeast Asia , Singapore's strategic position has helped it grow into a major centre for trade, communications and tourism . It is situated at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, which is separated only by water and adjacent to the Philippines and Indonesia. The Republic of Singapore is the world's smallest country in the world.
In the 14th century, Singapore is a strong Buddha Empire, and has been called "Temasek" or Haicheng. Apparently, a Buddhist Prince in Buddha Empire on the island see a beast, but he thought it was Lions, so they made the name "Temasek" and was renamed " Singapore", which means " Lion City." In 1819, a British Sir Stamford Raffles visit Singapore, and he discovered that Singapore has a good natural environment and parked ports, coupled with its advantageous location. He thinks that it is ideal for trade ports. Therefore, he established the British East India Company and from that point Singapore entered a new era. In the succeeding decades, large numbers of immigrants from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and India influx to the prosperous country of Singapore. In 1965, Singapore became an independent country. After 30 years of constant struggle, Singapore has developed into one of Asia's newly industrialized countries.

Singapore is located at the equator edge. Singapore is an equatorial country with relatively uniform temperature, high humidity all year round and abundant rainfall particularly during the Northeast Monsoon from November to January. It has relatively high temperatures with a daily average of 26.7°C and a high daily relative humidity of approximately 84.4%. After the deluge showers, the country enjoy the clean air that makes people filled with energy. In Singapore, almost all shops, hotels, office buildings and restaurants have air-conditioning equipment.
Singapore's four million populations composed of ethnic Chinese that account for about 77%, Malay for about 14%, India and Pakistan communities around 8%, and other ethnic of 1%. Over the years, Singapore immigrants form a racial harmony as well as its social stability. Singapore is free for religious group activities. The main religions are Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. Singapore's four official languages are: English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil, but the primary language is the English language.
