Advantages of Studying in South Africa

Studying abroad is many Chinese students dream but the high tuition and expensive living expenses is such a big discouragement to them. If you want to have overseas studies with good condition, low tuition and low cost of living...South Africa Welcomes you!

3 Advantages of Studying in South Africa:

Chinese students who study in South Africa have three advantages: First, universities use English as medium of instruction and South Africa is a good environment for learning English language. Second, tuition and costs of living is low which ordinary students can bear. Third, courses are closely connected to reality or courses offered are practical which will be helpful for students in their future employment.

Low Tuition and Low Cost of Living
One year's tuition is only about 1,000 U.S. dollars. The total annual costs plus living expenses is around 30,000 yuan. Given that the cost of living is not high, undergraduate students do not need to work. Graduate students on the other hand can apply as teaching assistant or research assistant to receive some form of income.

Quality Education and Good Learning Environment
South African universities provide high standard education as patterned from the British education system. Students receive diplomas that are recognized worldwide. As one of the English speaking countries, South Africa is a good English learning environment and has effective mechanism for training students in English.

Practical Courses
South African tertiary education is characterized by the combination of practical courses. Universities and enterprises work closely to provide students the avenue for applying their knowledge and skills in real scenarios. The internationally renowned universities are University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, and University of South Africa. There are also polytechnic universities such as the Polytechnic University of Cape Elizabeth, Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University of Natal, Suoerda Polytechnic University, and the Polytechnic University of Pretoria. Unlike other universities, polytechnic universities training objectives and tasks pay more attention to technical personnel training. They train and teach courses that are in accordance with the needs of corporations. Its students, after graduation, can directly have jobs and do not have to undergo retraining. At the Polytechnic University, the undergraduate degree is four years, master's degree is two years and a doctorate is three to five years.

Along with South Africa’s industrial and commercial rapid development, it passed the Higher Education Act in 1967 containing provisions about the Higher Institute of Technology professors and education courses. In 1979, South Africa passed the Higher Education Amendment Act which provides training objectives and tasks to polytechnic universities that are different with that of the other universities. It gives emphasis to the application of skills and to the close integration of teaching and training. Schools invite enterprises to join the curriculum committee in setting up courses that are in accordance to the immediate needs of enterprises. When students graduate, they can be directly hired.
