Swedish Education System

Sweden undergraduate education has advanced researched training component. Universities provide basic standards of higher education in the form of learning projects and courses. Sweden’s higher education is divided into two phases-- undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Sweden Universities generally consists of two semesters, fall and spring. The fall starts from mid-August to January. Spring is from mid-January to the early June. Christmas break is usually two weeks.

All colleges and universities in Sweden have Credit System. Full-time study has corresponding credits. Professional learning has 80-220 credits component. Full-time study period is from two years to five years. Courses can be from 5 -20 credits and some professional courses can have a maximum credit of 80.

Sweden 's graduation qualifications are different with other countries. With the different types of higher education courses, students may opt to take graduate courses or just select certain courses. You must have at least 80 credits to obtain a degree and a wide range of courses are available for you to be able to choose. Professional courses generally include a compulsory subject.

1. Diploma certificate: Students who have achieved or finished 80 credits of study may acquire diploma certificates. All universities and university colleges have the right to issue diplomas.

2. First degree: Bachelor of Science and/or Arts students should achieve at least 120 credits. They should have depth study of major lesson and complete 60 credits for the major. To obtain at least 10 credits, they should complete the independent paper. In addition to the Institute of Arts, all universities and colleges confer these degrees.

3. Master's certificate: Master of Science and/or Arts students should achieve at least 160 credits to be awarded the masters degree. They should have a depth study of 80 credits major courses and should complete independent papers to obtain 20 credits. Universities should obtain special permit from the government to be able to confer this degree.

4. Ph.D. certificate: Doctoral students should have taken four years of full-time study and obtained 160 credits. Doctoral courses include lectures, reading literature, independent research papers, and doctoral thesis that have scientific value. Most of the time of doctoral students is devoted to writing.
