Swiss Higher Education

In recent years, the numbers of students who want to pursue their studies at Switzerland at their own expense are increasing gradually. But because of the lack of knowledge about the Swiss education system, the private schools of higher education, as well as the nature and level of education, many candidates pick the wrong schools. This result to lack of qualifications recognized worldwide. The hardships in learning, the time devoted and the money spent are irrevocably lost.

The Swiss federal government recognizes two major institutions of higher education. The first part is the 12 public universities (10 universities and 2 polytechnics) and four Federal Institute; The second part is divided into seven federal Higher College.

Public universities are composed of two Federal Engineering (Zurich Polytechnic and the Polytechnic of Lausanne), and four Federal Institute. They are under the Swiss Federal Ministry Engineering Commission. For the other 10 State University, they are under the state government jurisdiction.

Hotel Management School

First it should be noted that, in addition to the Lausanne Hotel Management School (Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne (EHL)), all other Swiss hotel management schools, colleges, and universities do not belong to the Swiss Federal higher education.

Secondly, Switzerland and the Chinese education system, laws and concepts are different. Under Swiss law on freedom of occupation (Gewerbefreiheit), anyone has the right to run a private school. Of course, the Swiss private education is known worldwide and the quality is quite good. However, some private schools are poor and some take advantage of the students who do not understand the objective of the schools which is only to make profit.

In recent years, many Chinese students go to Switzerland to study hotel management. Swiss hotel management schools are prominent. But many students and their parents are not that sure about the nature of the Swiss hotel management schools, the level of education, and they also lack understanding on the real situation. To this end, it is necessary that Switzerland hotel management schools make a real situation analysis and present it to the public for them to be able to understand the basic issues.
