You can keep in touch with your family and friends  with the following means of communication.

  A、 Mail
  
In Britain, there are four ways of mail delivery.: 

  1. First-class mail  
       First-class mail standard weight is less than 60 grams. British domestic mail delivery the cost 26 pence and will arrive the next day in the hands of the recipients. International mail will cost 30-60 pence.

  2. Second-class mail  
       The standard weight is 60 grams and the mail costs 19 pence. It usually takes two to three days to reach the hands of the addressee. 

  3. Recorded delivery: to send important documents senders can trace the date of arrival.  

  4. Registered post: to send important documents. Lost item can be claimed.  

  B、 The Telephone 

  1. Public telephone: Public phones can be found everywhere, and the coin-two cassettes. If you use cassette phone, you need to purchase a prepaid phone cards. The most famous British telephone company BT (British telephone company), but BT's calls more expensive. Like China, the United Kingdom you can buy various network phone cards. Internet phone calls are cheaper but the quality is often poor, the voice delay causing you to spend more airtime. In Chinatown, you can find all kinds of phone cards.

  2. Students Line  
       If you live in the school hostel, you are entitled to the service line. The advantage for students is internal calls are free of charge. It is more convenient to discuss this with discussion with roommates to promote understanding. But the drawback is the use of telephone cards would cost you another. Thus, those who frequently use calling cards to make international long-distance students should consider the overall cost and quality of calls. Make the best choice.

  3. Mobile phones 
      
    In Britain, the cost of mobile phones is very cheap, sometimes even free telephone calls but more expensive. The most famous British wireless operators have Vodaphone, BT and One2One. You have wide variety of mobile phones and services. You must consider your call habit, such as the length of calls, type of call (international, domestic telephone cards) so as not to have high phone bills. Choose the best phone package for you.

  4. E-mail: most of the institutions in the UK to provide students with free e-mail accounts, and have sufficient computers for students to use. However, the school computers are usually equipped with password. We suggest you report back as soon as possible to make complete registration of your user name and password to fully utilize school facilities.
