The Second Category: Research Programs (Research Degrees)
Research programs are divided into two: Master’s and doctorate. For students who want to develop their professional interest, taking research courses is the best option. Under a guidance and supervision of a professor, the student will select a research topic and then move to the research process. Since students only receive a little supervision, the ability to pursue independent research is very important.
Students who want to apply for a master’s degree must have completed a bachelor degree, with at least one to two years of full-time research work. Base from the student’s progress during his master’s degree, the student may apply for a continuing doctoral research. Chinese students who have completed a three-year master’s degree in China can directly apply for doctoral study. Doctoral study generally requires three years or even longer to be completed. Students who have only finished bachelor’s degree may still apply for doctoral study but only for cyber courses. The cyber courses system was established in 2000. Its academic structure involves the integration of modularized medium of instruction, independent research and interdisciplinary study. This is a better means of adapting to the present knowledge-based economy on the demand for senior personnel. The study usually completed within four academic years.

Entry requirements
There are no entrance examination for students who want to pursue a graduate study in British universities and colleges. Applicants are admitted depending on their academic qualifications and completing the requirements. Each institution has each own standards of admitting applicants to the graduate programs. Common requirements include bachelor’s degree, and English proficiency test results (such as IELTS, where score must be 6.5 and above).
